The Kawasaki FX850V-KS12S is a 27 HP vertical-shaft gasoline engine designed for commercial lawn and turf equipment. It features an 852cc 90° V-twin, 4-cycle OHV configuration, forced-air cooling, and electronic spark ignition. Kawasaki specifications list 45.6 ft-lbs. of maximum torque at 2,400 RPM.

The KS12S configuration uses a 1-1/8" x 4-9/32" vertical crankshaft, electric starting, a 30-amp charging system, and a heavy-duty multi-stage canister air filter. It also features a fuel pump, pressurized lubrication, automatic compression release, high-efficiency oil cooler, cast-iron cylinder liners, and a metal engine cover with integrated clean-out ports.
